Incheon Airport to Seoul: AREX, Limousine Bus, Taxi and Every Option Compared (2026)

2026 6/26
Travel Tips
June 26, 2026

You have just landed at Incheon International Airport after a long flight, your legs are stiff, and you have no idea which exit to use. The last thing you want is to make the wrong transport decision and spend an extra hour sitting in traffic or standing on a crowded platform with heavy luggage.

This guide covers every option for getting from Incheon Airport to Seoul in 2026, with real prices, journey times, and honest advice on which one suits your situation. Whether you are heading to Hongdae, Gangnam, Myeongdong or anywhere else in the city, the right choice depends on where you are going, how many people are travelling with you, and what time you land.

Quick Answer: Which Transport Should You Take?

Before getting into the detail, here is a quick summary:

OptionJourney timeCostBest for
AREX Express 43–51 min ₩13,000 (~$9/€8) Solo travellers near Seoul Station
AREX All-Stop60–66 min₩4,150–₩4,950 (~$3/€3)Budget travellers heading to Hongdae or Gimpo
Limousine Bus 60–90 min ₩9,000–₩18,000 (~$6–$13/€5–€11) Travellers going to specific hotel zones
Taxi55–80 min₩65,000–₩95,000 (~$44–$65/€40–€58)Groups of 3–4, late-night arrivals
 KAL/Airport Bus 70–90 min ₩16,000–₩18,000 (~$11–$13/€10–€11) City centre destinations

Prices as of June 2026. Always verify current rates before travelling.

Terminal 1 or Terminal 2: Which Are You Arriving At?

Before worrying about transport, you need to know which terminal your flight lands at. Incheon has two main passenger terminals, and getting this wrong adds 20 minutes to your journey.

Terminal 1 (T1) handles most international airlines including British Airways, Cathay Pacific, Japan Airlines, Singapore Airlines, and many others.

Terminal 2 (T2) handles Korean Air, Delta, Air France, KLM, and: as of January 2026: Asiana Airlines, Jin Air, Air Busan, and Air Seoul. If you are flying with any of these carriers, you arrive at T2.

Both terminals are connected by a free internal shuttle train that runs every few minutes and takes about 6 minutes. If you need to transfer between terminals (for example, if your connection or meetup is at the other building), follow the signs for the Terminal 2 connector from T1 or vice versa.

All transport options below operate from both terminals, but pickup points differ slightly. Check signage carefully after clearing customs.

Option 1: AREX Express Train

The AREX (Airport Railroad Express) is the fastest way from the airport to Seoul Station, and for many travellers it is the smartest choice.

AREX Express: The Direct Service

The Express runs non-stop from Incheon Airport directly to Seoul Station, with no intermediate stops. From T1, the journey takes 43 minutes. From T2, it takes 51 minutes.

Price: ₩13,000 (~$9/€8) per adult. Children aged 6–12 pay ₩13,000. Children under 6 travel free but do not get a seat.

You cannot use a T-money card for the Express service. You need a dedicated AREX ticket, purchased at the ticketing machines on the B1 level of the Transportation Centre in both terminals. Look for the orange AREX signage, not the blue subway signs.

Online booking through platforms like Klook typically brings the price down to around ₩11,500 (~$8/€7), which is worth doing in advance if you have a confirmed flight time.

Trains run from approximately 05:20 to 22:40 from T1, and 05:15 to 22:35 from T2. If your flight lands after 22:00 and you cannot reach Seoul Station before the last train, this option is off the table.

Who should take it: Solo travellers or couples whose accommodation is near Seoul Station, Myeongdong, or anywhere easily reachable via Line 1 or Line 4 from Seoul Station. It is also a good choice if you are connecting onward by KTX train from Seoul Station to Busan, Gyeongju, or Daegu.

Who should skip it: Travellers heading to Hongdae, Itaewon, Gangnam, or anywhere that requires a further metro change from Seoul Station. In those cases, the All-Stop train or a limousine bus often works better.

Author’s Take: I have taken the AREX Express more times than I can count, and the honest truth is it is only worth it if Seoul Station is genuinely convenient for you. The extra ₩9,000 over the All-Stop train gets you 20 minutes and a reserved seat. On a short trip that feels significant. After a 14-hour flight with two bags, it genuinely is.

AREX All-Stop: The Budget Alternative

The All-Stop train uses the same AREX line but stops at every station along the way, including Gimpo International Airport, Digital Media City, Hongik University (Hongdae), and Gongdeok before reaching Seoul Station.

Journey time: approximately 66 minutes from T1 to Seoul Station.

Price: ₩4,150–₩4,950 (~$3/€3) depending on your destination. You can use your T-money card for this service.

If you are heading to Hongdae, this is arguably the best option in the entire airport to Seoul lineup. You arrive at Hongik University Station directly, which puts you right in the heart of the neighbourhood with no transfers needed.

Trains run every 5–10 minutes throughout the day. First departure from T1 is around 05:23, last is around 23:32.

Who should take it: Budget travellers, anyone heading to Hongdae, and travellers comfortable navigating the Seoul metro for onward connections.

Author’s Tip: If Hongdae is your base, the All-Stop is the single best airport transport decision you can make. You step off the train and you are already there. No taxis, no transfers, no dragging bags down stairs at a second station.

Option 2: Airport Limousine Bus

Limousine buses run directly from Incheon Airport to specific zones across Seoul, dropping passengers at hotels and transit hubs along designated routes. If your accommodation is close to one of the bus stops, this can be more convenient than taking a train and then a taxi.

Journey time: 60–90 minutes depending on route and traffic. Avoid rush hours (07:00–09:00 and 17:00–20:00) if possible, as journey times can stretch to 2 hours on congested routes.

Author’s Take: I once took the Route 6003 bus to Gangnam on a Tuesday evening at 18:30. What should have been 80 minutes took two hours and ten minutes. The driver was calm. I was not. If you land between 16:00 and 20:00 and Gangnam is your destination, the taxi will cost more but it will not cost you the first evening of your trip.

Price: ₩9,000–₩18,000 (~$6–$13/€5–€11) depending on route.

Tickets are purchased at the Bus Ticket booths outside the arrivals area on the ground floor of each terminal. You can also pay on board with a T-money card on some routes.

Who should take it: Travellers with heavy luggage heading to a specific district, families who do not want to drag bags up metro stairs, and anyone whose hotel is directly on a bus route.

Who should skip it: Travellers arriving during rush hour, those who need to be somewhere quickly, and anyone whose accommodation is not near a bus stop on the major routes.

Option 3: Taxi

Taxis from Incheon Airport are metered, regulated, and generally reliable. English communication can be limited with regular taxi drivers, but the Kakao T app (available in English) lets you book in advance, shows the estimated fare upfront, and confirms the route before you confirm the booking.

Regular Taxi

Journey time: 55–80 minutes depending on destination and traffic.

Price (approximate, June 2026):

  • To Myeongdong/City Hall: ₩65,000–₩75,000 (~$44–$51/€40–€46)
  • To Hongdae: ₩60,000–₩70,000 (~$41–$48/€37–€43)
  • To Gangnam: ₩75,000–₩90,000 (~$51–$61/€46–€55)
  • To Itaewon: ₩68,000–₩80,000 (~$46–$54/€42–€49)

Note: A ₩7,900 (~$5/€5) expressway toll is added to the meter on top of the fare. Late-night surcharges (22:00–04:00) add approximately 20% to the total.

Deluxe / Jumbo Taxi

For groups of 5–6 or travellers with substantial luggage, jumbo taxis (van taxis) are available from designated stands outside the arrivals hall. Prices are 20–30% higher than regular taxis but split across a group they are often competitive with multiple separate fares on the limousine bus.

Who should take a taxi: Groups of 3–4 splitting the cost, travellers arriving after midnight when other options are limited, and anyone with very heavy luggage who wants door-to-door service.

Who should skip it: Solo travellers on a budget, anyone travelling during rush hour (add 30–60 minutes to the estimates above).

Editor’s Tip: If you are splitting a taxi between three people going to the same hotel, run the numbers before defaulting to the bus. Three individual limousine bus tickets to Gangnam cost ₩54,000. A taxi to the same destination costs ₩75,000–₩90,000 split three ways, which is ₩25,000–₩30,000 per person. The taxi often wins for groups, and it drops you at the door.

Option 4: KAL Limousine and Premium Buses

In addition to the standard limousine routes, Korean Air operates KAL Limousine buses on several routes. These use comfortable coaches and serve key hotel clusters. Prices are comparable to standard limousine buses (₩16,000–₩18,000/~$11–$13/€10–€11) and the service standard is slightly higher in terms of seat space and punctuality.

The routes largely overlap with the standard limousine buses above, so the decision usually comes down to which bus departs next when you arrive at the bus stop.

Late-Night Arrivals: What to Do After the Last AREX

If your flight lands after midnight, your options narrow significantly.

The last AREX Express departs from T1 at approximately 22:40. The All-Stop train runs slightly later, with the last departure from T1 at around 23:32.

After the trains stop, your practical options are:

Night Bus: Routes N6000 and N6001 run from Incheon Airport to central Seoul overnight. They are inexpensive (around ₩2,500/~$2/€2 with T-money) but slow, taking 90–120 minutes and involving multiple stops. Not ideal with heavy luggage.

Taxi: Available 24 hours. Late-night surcharges apply. For a solo traveller going to Myeongdong, expect ₩75,000–₩85,000 (~$51–$58/€46–€52) including the expressway toll and night surcharge.

Wait at the airport: Both terminals have 24-hour facilities including restaurants, lounges, and rest areas. If you land at 01:00 and your first meeting or check-in is at 10:00, staying at the airport until the first AREX at 05:20 is genuinely worth considering.

Author’s Tip: Incheon Airport is genuinely one of the better airports in the world to be stuck in overnight. There is a sleeping lounge, a cultural experience centre with traditional Korean activities, a spa, and 24-hour convenience stores. I have spent a night there voluntarily rather than taking a midnight taxi. It is fine.

Practical Tips Before You Travel

Get your T-money card before leaving the arrivals hall. GS25 and CU convenience stores in the arrivals area of both T1 and T2 sell T-money cards. Load ₩20,000–₩30,000 (~$14–$20/€12–€18) on arrival. This covers the All-Stop AREX fare, any metro transfers, and bus connections once in the city.

Withdraw cash from airport ATMs if needed. Most Woori, KEB Hana, and Shinhan ATMs at the airport accept international cards. Withdraw in Korean Won rather than accepting the ATM’s currency conversion offer, which is always at a worse rate.

Download Kakao T before landing. Link your international credit card in advance. This gives you metered taxi fares, English-language booking, and route confirmation before you get in the car.

Download Naver Maps. Google Maps works in Seoul but is less accurate than Naver Maps for Korean transit routes, real-time bus schedules, and walking directions. Download it and cache your destination area before the flight.

Check which terminal you are arriving at. Confirm T1 or T2 in your booking confirmation before you land. Heading to the wrong terminal adds 20–30 minutes and significant frustration.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use a T-money card for the AREX Express? No. The Express service requires a dedicated AREX ticket. The All-Stop service accepts T-money.

How do I get from T1 to T2 or vice versa? Take the free inter-terminal train from B1 of either terminal. It runs every few minutes and takes about 6 minutes.

Is the taxi fare fixed or metered? All taxis from Incheon Airport are metered. There are no fixed-price airport taxis for Seoul destinations. The expressway toll of ₩7,900 (~$5/€5) is added on top.

Can I book a limousine bus in advance? Tickets are generally purchased on arrival at the bus ticket booths. Some routes allow app-based booking via the Incheon Airport official app, but most travellers buy on the day.

What if I arrive after the last train? Take a taxi or the Night Bus (N6000 or N6001). Alternatively, wait at the airport for the first All-Stop train at approximately 05:23 from T1.

Is Kakao T safe to use from the airport? Yes. Kakao T is the standard taxi-hailing app in South Korea and is widely used by both locals and tourists. The app shows the estimated fare before confirmation.

How long does customs and immigration take at Incheon? Typically 20–45 minutes for non-Korean passport holders, depending on flight volume. Allow extra time during peak holiday periods such as Chuseok, Lunar New Year, and summer school holidays.

Is Incheon Airport connected to Gimpo Airport? Yes, via the AREX All-Stop train. The journey takes approximately 30 minutes and costs ₩2,950 (~$2/€2) with T-money.

Getting Around Seoul Once You Arrive

Getting from the airport is only the first step. Seoul’s public transport network is one of the best in Asia, and once you have your T-money card loaded, you can reach almost anywhere in the city for under ₩2,000 (~$1.50/€1.30) per journey.

The Seoul Metro

The metro covers 23 lines and hundreds of stations across the Greater Seoul area. Signs and announcements are in Korean and English, and Google Maps and Naver Maps both give accurate real-time directions. A standard journey within central Seoul costs ₩1,550–₩2,150 (~$1.10–$1.50/€1.00–€1.30) with T-money depending on distance.

Key lines to know:

Line 2 (Green): The busiest line, running in a loop through the city centre. Stops include Hongik University (Hongdae), Sinchon, Gangnam, and COEX. If you are basing yourself in Hongdae or Gangnam, this line will be your most-used.

Line 4 (Blue): Connects Seoul Station (where the AREX Express arrives) northward to Myeongdong, Dongdaemun, and onward. Essential for Myeongdong-area travellers.

Line 9 (Gold): Express stops connect the western part of the city to Gangnam quickly. Running between Gimpo Airport and Sinnonhyeon Station, it is useful for travellers moving between the western and southern parts of Seoul.

Bundang Line (Yellow): Connects the southern suburbs to the city centre, useful if your accommodation is in the Gangnam or Seocho districts.

Seoul City Buses

Buses fill the gaps the metro does not reach, particularly for hillside neighbourhoods, palaces, and areas like Bukchon and Insadong where metro stations are further away. Colour coding helps: blue buses cover major arterial routes across districts, green buses are local neighbourhood feeders, yellow buses loop the city centre, and red buses are express services to outer suburbs.

Pay with T-money at boarding and tap out when leaving to receive transfer discounts. On most routes, transferring between bus and metro within 30 minutes costs nothing beyond the distance surcharge.

Taxis in Seoul

City taxis in Seoul are metered, plentiful, and relatively affordable by international standards. The base fare is ₩4,800 (~$3.30/€3.00) for the first 1.6 km, with additional charges per kilometre and per minute in slow traffic. A typical 15-minute ride in moderate traffic runs ₩12,000–₩16,000 (~$8–$11/€7–€10).

Kakao T is the standard booking app. It shows the estimated fare before you confirm, routes the nearest available driver, and can be paid by credit card through the app. English-language maps are included and the interface is straightforward.

Leaving Seoul for Other Cities

Incheon Airport has excellent rail connections not just to Seoul but onward to the rest of South Korea.

Seoul to Busan by KTX: The high-speed train from Seoul Station takes around 2 hours 30 minutes and costs ₩59,800 (~$41/€37) for the faster express service. If you arrive at Incheon and are continuing straight to Busan, taking the AREX Express to Seoul Station and then the KTX is a clean, efficient connection. Book KTX tickets in advance on the Korail website or app.

Seoul to Gyeongju: Around 2 hours on the KTX to Singyeongju Station, followed by a short bus or taxi into the historic centre. A good base for day trips from Busan if you are doing the east coast.

Seoul to Jeju Island: Domestic flights from Gimpo Airport (reachable via the AREX All-Stop from Incheon, about 30 minutes). Budget carriers Jeju Air, Jin Air, and T’way Air connect Gimpo to Jeju in under an hour. Book in advance, particularly during cherry blossom season (late March to early April) and summer holidays when prices surge.

Prices and timetables are accurate as of June 2026 and are subject to change. Always confirm current fares and schedules on the official Incheon Airport website (airport.kr) and the Korail app before travel.

Final Recommendation

For most first-time visitors to Seoul:

  • Going to Hongdae: AREX All-Stop, no transfer needed, under ₩5,000.
  • Going to Myeongdong: AREX Express to Seoul Station, two stops on Line 4, total around ₩15,000.
  • Going to Gangnam: Limousine Bus 6900, direct, around ₩18,000.
  • Travelling in a group of 3–4: Taxi. Split the cost and get door-to-door service for roughly the same price as individual bus tickets.
  • Late-night arrival: Taxi. Budget ₩75,000–₩90,000 to most central destinations including surcharges.

The All-Stop AREX and limousine buses cover the majority of travellers well. Save the Express train for when speed to Seoul Station specifically is the priority, and the taxi for groups and late nights.
